Match up vector & images
Still remember the stylish icons that I have created and show you at the last two post? Now I’m going to show you, how to distort the flat icon to more 3D look.

First of all, draw an object, exp mine will be an icon. Select it and apply “Envelope Distort” to it. Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh…

Set Rows : 1 and Columns : 1, the higher number you set, more points to distort will be created.

By using Direct Selection Tool, drag down the right top and drag up the bottom points ( Follow the direction of the arrow ).

Now, by following the arrow, drag slowly to the points, the icon looks normal now compare to before, which a bit weird.

Lets slim down the icon from fat, by using Selection Tool, adjust the shape of the icon, now the icon looks 3D already.

Duplicated it and place it below, we are going to create shadow for it now.

Most of you know Reflect Tool rite? Use it now to flip the “Duplicated Icon” so that it look like a mirror of the icon above.

Adjust the “Duplicated Icon” shape properly by using back the Direct Selection Tool.

Lets go to Photoshop now, apply vector mask, then apply black and white gradient to the “Duplicated Icon”, the shadow part done.

Find a suitable view image, put at behind the icons, to match up both image and icon ( vector ), shadow play an important role here. Apply Color Burn effect to the “Duplicated Icon” to create much realistic shadow. Congratulates, you have done it!
